fare enough

fare enough picks the cheapest public transit fare in Greater Montreal for how you ride. Say whether you are visiting, commuting or riding now and then, who is riding and how far you go, and it compares every fare from the ARTM and STM schedules and shows the math.

The fare enough result card, split diagonally between light and dark themes. It recommends 10-trip fares at $105 most months, $91 a month on average, next to an OPUS-style card showing 2.6 of 4 loads, compares single tickets at +$6.50 and the Monthly pass at +$19, and notes $228 saved over a year.

What problem does it solve?

Greater Montreal has dozens of transit fares across four zones, with reduced rates and passes that overlap. The fare schedules list what each one costs, not which one to buy. Every month, people with a hybrid schedule redo the same math on the Monthly pass, and visitors guess between day passes at the airport.

How it works

Five stops, drawn like a métro line. Pick how you ride, who is riding and how far you go. The last stop recommends a fare and updates as you change the details, such as office days per week, extra trips, days in town or flights through YUL. Each result shows the cost, the savings against the real alternative and a short explanation, like where the Monthly pass starts to pay off.

Whom it’s for

Hybrid workers deciding on the Monthly pass, occasional riders, students and seniors with reduced fares, and visitors working out the 747 airport bus.

Tech

A single static page with no build step and no backend. Prices from the ARTM and STM fare schedules are built in, and visitor plans are worked out day by day to find the cheapest mix of passes. Set in STM Montreal for the wordmark, with the métro line colours for each stop. French by default, English one tap away.

Frequently asked questions

Which fares does it compare?

Single, 2-trip and 10-trip fares, the 24-hour, 3-day, Weekly, Monthly and 4-month passes, and the Unlimited Weekend pass, across zones A, B, C and D at regular and reduced rates.

Is the monthly pass worth it?

In zone A it pays off from about 32 trips a month. Three office days a week with no other trips comes to about 26, so 10-trip fares win. Add two trips a week and the Monthly pass wins.

What should a visitor buy?

It depends on the days and the airport. A Friday to Sunday stay that starts and ends at YUL comes out cheapest with the 3-day pass, since it also covers the 747 airport bus.

Are the prices current?

They come from the ARTM and STM fare schedules, read October 20, 2026. Always check current fares before buying.

Is it affiliated with the STM or ARTM?

No. It is an independent tool.

Is it in French?

French is the default, with English one tap away.
