What made you start building things on the web?
Personal April 1, 2026
In the late 90s, a friend showed us his cjb.net website full of animated GIFs. I wanted one immediately. Learned how to "borrow" GIFs from other sites and how to write <img> and <li> tags. That was all you needed, really.
What is something most people get wrong about design?
Hot Take April 1, 2026
That you need visual perception to judge whether it works. Good design can be explained through words. That is the whole point of accessibility. If it is not accessible, it is probably a visual artifact that happens to be interactive. It does not fully function.
Do you use AI? How do you see it?
Opinion April 1, 2026
I design for and with it, research with it, automate with it, and learn through it. It gives everyone with access resources that were unfathomable before. Life on earth keeps disrupting the status quo. Remote work, gig culture, designers coding, developers designing, reassessing privacy and copyright. AI is part of that. I do not get hating it or worshipping it. It is a reality. Humans will bring the end of life as we know it. AI can only help accelerate. I do not blame the game. I blame the player.
I hate that AI ruined the em dash for everyone. But I like that it made me kinder in how I communicate with strangers who have no chance to read my tone.
Light mode or dark mode?
Preference April 1, 2026
Dark mode, always. One of the best things since sliced bread.
What do you think of personal websites in 2026?
Opinion April 1, 2026
A better bet than social media. You own your data, control your privacy, and build without conforming to platform rules. The indie web exists because the alternative asks too much and gives back too little.
What if social media never existed?
Hypothetical April 1, 2026
It has existed since a third person entered the room. It is always about optics and it keeps changing form to follow function. What stays constant is how poorly we use each new advancement for collective good. Progress, justice, awareness. The non-negotiables never get prioritized.
Why did you build this site?
Meta April 1, 2026
I have always avoided mainstream social media. I did not want to live behind the curtains online anymore. This site is about claiming my space and my ideas, on my terms.
