Folios

Folios is a directory of portfolio sites by digital designers in Canada. Every listing is a designer's own website, checked by a person before it goes up. Browse by province or territory, sort by name, or see who is open to work. Designers can claim their listing with a DNS record or a meta tag, with no account and no email.

Dark page with the Folios wordmark, Submit and Claim buttons, and the headline The Portfolios of Canada over a faint map of Canada. Below, a grid of province and territory filters with counts, a Sort menu set to Random, and the first row of portfolio screenshots.

What problem does it solve?

Most places to find designers ask something of them first. A paywall, an account, a profile, a fresh upload of case studies that already live on their own site. Folios skips all of that. If a designer has a portfolio on their own domain, that is the listing, and visitors land on the site as it was built.

How it works

One page of screenshots, shuffled on every visit so no one is always first. Filter by province or territory, or sort by name, verified listings or availability. Every entry is checked by a person against a short list of rules before it goes up. Anyone can submit a portfolio, and designers can claim theirs with a DNS record or a meta tag to set their availability and pick which page is captured.

Whom it’s for

Hiring managers, recruiters and studios looking for designers in Canada, and designers who want to be found without maintaining another profile.

Tech

Astro, with a d3-geo map of Canada behind the hero. Screenshots are captured with Playwright in dark mode. Hosted on Vercel, with Vercel BotID on the submit and claim forms.

Frequently asked questions

Who gets listed?

Digital designers based in Canada with a portfolio on their own domain, real projects, and a LinkedIn profile. No platform subdomains, no students.

Does it cost anything?

No. There is no fee, no account and nothing to upload. The listing is the designer's own site.

Can I submit my own portfolio?

Yes. Submit it on folios.ca and it is reviewed against the criteria by a person.

How do I claim my listing?

Add a DNS TXT record or a meta tag to your site. Claimed listings get a verified badge, an availability status and a say in which page is captured.

Why are there no specialization tags?

Most designers wear more than one hat, and labels like UX or UI split people into boxes. A screenshot of the site says more than a tag.
